NEW PATIENTS: Please fill out and bring the New Patient Forms to your first appointment.
What to Expect During Your First Visit
We ask that all new patients arrive 15 minutes prior to their appointments in order to complete New Patient Forms if they have not already done so at home. After completing all necessary documents, you will be seen by me. A new patient visit generally lasts 90 minutes whereas follow-up visits last about 60 minutes.
An acupuncture treatment session consists of:
Patient Interview: I will start with a series of questions about your chief complaint, overall health and well-being, your lifestyle including diet and sleep patterns. This will give me a holistic understanding of your condition and opportunity to address any questions you have. During this time, I will also discuss lifestyle changes, dietary and exercise recommendations. The interview lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Physical Exam: Traditional Chinese Medical diagnostic tools consist of pulse, tongue and facial diagnosis. I will palpate your wrists for your pulse, look at your tongue and face. For patients with pain, I may also use palpation and range of motion testing in the physical exam. All of the above will help me make a diagnosis and determine your treatment plan.
Treatment: After a treatment plan is determined, I will have you lie down comfortably on a treatment table and begin treatment. After all needles are inserted, you will relax in a room for 30 to 45 minutes after which I will return to take out the needles. I may also employ other modalities such as gua-sha, cupping, moxibustion, electro stimulation or Acupressure/Tuina in addition to acupuncture depending on your condition and diagnosis.
Herbal Formulas: If I deem it necessary, I may also prescribe Chinese herbal medicine in the form of granules (powder form). Most patients nowadays do not have time to cook raw herbs so herbs in granule form would be a lot easier and convenient to take. This herbal formula will be filled in the clinic’s herbal dispensary and will be available for pick-up after your treatment.
To ensure a successful visit, please make sure to:
• Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before your treatment. Please do not come for acupuncture on an empty stomach.
• Wear comfortable and loose clothing, and preferably pants that can easily roll up to the knees.
• Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and other stimulants before your treatment
• Bring copies of previous tests, lab results and any medications or supplements you are currently taking.
Please download and complete our New Patient Forms and bring them with you to your initial visit. We look forward to seeing you soon!
